Concrete Repair
We repair cracked, settled and broken concrete by cutting the failed section out, rebuilding the ground beneath it and pouring new concrete in its place. Driveways, patios, walkways and steps. The first task on any of them is establishing how far the damage actually extends.
Not all damaged concrete requires full replacement, and distinguishing between the two cases is the relevant expertise. A single cracked panel or a settled section is a repair. Cracking in several directions across the whole slab is a surface at the end of its service life.
The indicator is generally underfoot rather than visual. Where the two sides of a crack sit at different heights, the ground has moved, and correcting the ground is the repair. Confined to the section that failed, it costs a fraction of replacing the whole surface.

Concrete repair and section replacement in Sacramento
CA Pro Concrete repairs damaged concrete across Sacramento by removing the failed section and pouring new concrete in its place. A cracked panel in a walkway, a settled section of driveway, a broken corner of a patio: the affected area is saw cut out at the joints, the ground beneath it is rebuilt, and new concrete is placed and finished to match the slab around it.
This is the method in every case. We do not lift slabs and we do not apply overlays, because both treat the surface while leaving the ground that caused the failure untouched. Where a base has settled or a root has displaced a panel, correcting the ground is the repair. Confining that work to the section that has failed, rather than the whole surface, is what keeps it well below the cost of full replacement.
What is included in a concrete repair
Three stages, carried out on the failed section rather than the whole slab. The assessment that establishes how far the damage extends is done first, at no charge.
Assessment and saw cutting
How far the failure extends is established before anything is cut, as the damage visible at the surface is not always its full extent. The section is then saw cut on straight lines at the existing joints, so the repair reads as part of the slab rather than as a patch.
Removal and base correction
The old concrete is broken out and hauled away, and the ground beneath is excavated and recompacted. Where a root, a void or a drainage fault caused the failure, it is corrected at this stage. A new section poured over the original fault will fail in the same place.
New concrete poured to match
Reinforcement is set, new concrete is placed to the depth the use requires, and the surface is finished and jointed to meet the existing slab in level, texture and line.
Why choose CA Pro Concrete for concrete repair
- The section is replaced, not covered
- Lifting a slab or bonding an overlay to it leaves the ground that caused the failure in place. We remove the failed concrete and rebuild what is underneath it.
- An honest assessment
- Where one panel has failed, one panel is what we quote. Where a slab has reached the end of its service life, we say so at the estimate rather than returning within the year.
- Both ends of the work
- The same crew carries out section repairs and full replacements, so the recommendation is not constrained by the services we are equipped to provide.
- CSLB License #1024813
- Licensed with the Contractors State License Board, fully insured, and fifteen years of concrete work across the Sacramento area.
Concrete repair questions
If your question is not answered here, contact CA Pro Concrete directly. We assess every job on site and provide a written estimate at no charge.
How much does concrete repair cost in Sacramento?
Considerably less than replacing the whole surface, because the work is confined to the section that has failed. The area being cut out is the largest factor, followed by site access, the depth the new concrete has to be poured to, and whether the cause of the failure is a compaction problem or something that has to be dug out, such as a root.
We are not able to price repair work from a photograph, as the condition of the ground beneath the slab determines the extent of the work and is not visible in an image. The assessment visit is free and concludes with a written estimate.
Should concrete be repaired or replaced?
The answer is usually how much of the slab is affected. Where one or two panels have cracked, settled or broken up and the remainder is sound and sitting level, those sections are cut out and replaced and the rest of the surface stays where it is.
Where cracking runs in several directions across the whole slab, or sections move under load across most of its area, the slab has reached the end of its service life and repairing part of it is money spent on a surface that will continue to fail elsewhere. We state which applies at the estimate.
Do you offer concrete leveling or mudjacking in Sacramento?
No. Concrete leveling raises a settled slab by pumping material into the void beneath it, and we do not carry out that work. Where a section has settled, we remove it, correct and compact the ground that allowed it to settle, and pour a new section in its place.
The reason is what caused the settlement. A slab drops because the ground under it moved or washed out, and filling the resulting void leaves the original concrete, with whatever cracking it has already taken, sitting on top of a repair. Rebuilding the base and pouring new concrete addresses the cause and the surface together.
Can one cracked section be replaced without redoing the whole driveway?
Yes, and on a jointed driveway or walkway it is the standard approach. The panel is saw cut out at the existing joints, which gives the repair a straight edge on a line that was already there, and the new concrete is jointed to match the pattern of the rest of the slab.
New concrete will not match weathered concrete in color at first. It cures lighter and darkens over the following months, and on an older slab some difference in tone generally remains. Where appearance across the whole surface matters more than cost, replacing the full area is the option that delivers it, and we will say so.
Why is concrete cracking, sinking or flaking?
Cracking is generally a jointing issue. Concrete shrinks as it cures, and where control joints were cut too shallow, too late or spaced too far apart, the slab cracks at random instead of along a planned line. Sinking is a base issue: soil that was not adequately compacted, or water washing fines out from beneath the slab.
Surface flaking and pitting, described as scaling or spalling, is a finishing or water issue. Excess water worked into the surface during finishing leaves a weakened top layer that separates over time. Each has a different cause, and establishing which is present is what determines how far the section being replaced has to extend.
